Caution: Too Much Turkey

Thanksgiving is always loaded with tradition — too much tradition for my taste. It’s not about the turkey, however; I am tired of watching the same handful of NFL teams on Turkey Day, especially when they are not going anywhere, not very interesting, and the tryptophan is already working its magic.
Get ready (yawn), because NFL football this Thanksgiving day will be about as irrelevant as it gets. The Texans and Lions are a combined 7-13. The Cowboys and the Washington club are a combined 6-14, and the sad fact that either could go to the playoffs as a (mandatory) division winner only makes the whole thing that much more depressing. I suspect that the one team finally awarded this dubious division crown will likely not be in the playoffs for very long.
Anyway, on Thanksgiving Day, after my nap, I had planned to wake up to some real excitement — the Steelers and Ravens. But the coronavirus wrecked that plan, and now, that game has been rescheduled for Sunday. Ok, I’ll survive. But I will definitely spend even more time than I had planned on phone calls and virtual Thanksgiving visits — and I suggest that most NFL fans do likewise. We may enjoy turkey, but they can't force us to watch them.
Once we get to Sunday, there is quite a bit more to wake up to. Besides that big AFC North showdown, the war between the Titans and Colts — with the AFC South title possibly on the line — is a sure-fire winner.
Regarding other contenders, that Chiefs-Bucs duel should be very exciting. And I have a hunch that the 49ers are going to make a strong final push in the NFC West race versus the division-leading Rams.
Finally, Sunday night is capped off with the Bears trying to catch up to the Packers in the NFC North. I look for a defensive duel in that contest.
Thanksgiving is permission to be a couch potato. But Sunday has the only matches that I think are worthwhile. Must remember to quit eating those leftover turkey sandwiches by Sunday.
