To call JLo an icon is an understatement. In a 40-year career, Jennifer Lopez has proven she can do it all successfully.

At the beginning of Jennifer Lopez's career, I thought she was pretty talented, but as the years have gone by, the actress/singer has become an even more engaging performer --flawless and versatile. I fell in love with Lopez's version of Barbra Streisand's classic song "People". JL0 performed on the 'One World: Together at Home' show that streamed on April 13 of this year. The benefit concert was produced by Global Citizen and narrated by Lady Gaga to support The World Health Organization. Its goal was to promote social distancing in the early stages of the coronavirus pandemic.

Jennifer Lopez stunned in an understated sweatshirt with Barbra Streisand's likeness on it and tulle skirt, looking fresh-faced and beautiful as ever. It is clear this woman, who defies normal aging, has worked hard to finetune her vocal skills. To have talent is one thing, but to embellish it another. To take on Streisand's signature song was not an easy thing. But Lopez did her proud. JLo's version got rave reviews from both Billboard and Marie Claire magazines. She sang with a pure clean tone, hitting high notes with sincere emotion.

Alex Rodrigues' fiancee came from humble beginnings. The 51-year-old dancer/actress/singer/producer/businesswoman and fashion designer was born in the Bronx. Anyone who knows New York will tell you this is a tough environment. Her parents were Puerto Rican immigrants who came to the States when they were kids.

Young JLo was intrigued by the entertainment industry and dreamed of becoming a megastar. She started to take dancing and singing lessons at the age of five -- with salsa, merengue, hip-hop, R& B and pop all shaping her style. Certainly, her Latin roots added to the aura of 'Jenny from the Block,' as the superstar came to be called.

Jennifer Lopez has said her greatest influence was Rita Moreno in the 1961 classic film West Side Story. Moreno played Anita, the Puerto Rican girlfriend of the Shark gang leader Bernardo. Moreno was honored with the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1962.

With dreams in hand, to the dismay of her mother, Jennifer Lopez left home at the age of 18. She took dancing jobs at night and supported herself by working in a law firm. Her mom was scared her daughter wanted to enter such an unpredictable business. But all of JLo's instincts were spot on.

In 1990, she landed a role as a fly girl on the Fox hit In Living Color. After 2 years, she was hired by Janet Jackson as a dancer. By 1997, Jennifer Lopez had a starring role as Selena, the beautiful but ill-fated Mexican singer. Her latest role in Hustlers, where she played a shrewd and streetwise stripper, was a tour de force.

Jennifer Lopez has been nominated to receive the People's Icon Award from The E! People's Choice Awards. It is well-deserved. The show will air live from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on November 15.
