Politics and Religion Really Do Not Mix

Politics are legal, not moral. Religion is moral, to provide direction, a compass for when people question actions or need to make decisions. When politics clashes with morality, a religious reason to justify the amoral law creates confusion and misrepresents the religion. The two cannot be mixed.
This week Chelsea Clinton stated that protecting babies from abortion would be “Unchristian." This is just one example of her making comments that are further from the truth. Her comment, in part, stemmed from her improper and untrue quote of statistics that women were lined up and dying because of illegal abortions pre-Roe v Wade.
In a story by Calvin Freiburger on lifesitenews.com states that ex-abortion industry insiders admitted years ago that “they inflated the pre-Roe maternal deaths for political gain and that most illegal abortions were committed by licensed physicians.” To argue that illegal abortions were all performed in people’s kitchens or by untrained hacks is ridiculous. The fact that most were licensed physicians willing to perform illegal abortions simply suggests that the industry was already a money-maker, similar to making hooch during prohibition. The only thing Roe did was allow those physicians to make their money legally.
Clinton stated that everyday she makes the “moral choice to be optimistic.” I cannot connect with that statement. Making a moral choice to be optimistic while endorsing the killing of innocent babies just doesn’t sell. We have now performed in excess of 60 million abortions since the passing of Roe.
I was taught years ago that just because something is legal, it does not make it either logical or moral. To presume morality would have to question whose standard of morality is being met. As our entire legal system was built on Judeo-Christian ethics, it is no wonder we have people confused over the abortion law as killing any human life is directly against the teachings given us by God.
From the very beginning of the Bible, Genesis 9:6 states, “Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made mankind.” Do your own word study, but the Bible continues through both Testaments to teach that each person is uniquely and wonderfully made and that God knew each of us even while in the womb. Since science has demonstrated that life really does begin at conception, we cannot now re-write the Bible to justify our own perverted argument that killing the unborn is somehow “Christian.”
So, we have passed a law years ago that did not consider the value of life, only selfish gain at the expense of a human life. That political decision does not make the action moral. It simply makes it legal. Attempting to justify it with any religion, let alone Christianity, is a misapplication, a complete misunderstanding, and ignorant interpretation. When Jesus said to suffer (permit) the children to go to Him, He was implying that there would be children to come to him. He did not mean that killing them was how he wanted them to go to him.
Politics is not moral, it is legal. Religion can be at odds with politics when it is not moral. Joining the two together does not work.
