The Joy of Loneliness

When one gets to the ripe old age of eighty five, it is very difficult to come to terms with the feeling of loneliness. One has to ask whether there is something to do that will send the demons back to where they came from.

I awakened this morning with an awful sense of loneliness. My husband and I have just moved into another apartment, and at my age I was marooned in the place as my husband had gone shopping. It is difficult coming to terms with old age, and now, unable to drive, my energy level is low and I have no desire to walk around and try to meet new people.

The one promising thing is that a friend who also lived at the place we left, dropped in to say hello. She and her husband are now in the middle of moving into an apartment in this development, so I probably won't be spending time with her until she and her spouse are settled.

I have to wonder if my readers ever consider how difficult it is to be almost eighty five and lack the strength to walk to the club house and meet some potentially nice people.

All that is left is my opportunity to share some of my life with the people who read my articles. As I have written before, my daughter is still very ill in Florida, and in light of an email I received this morning, the news is very upsetting. Naturally I love her very much, But I am in no shape to go and see her.

I just thought of a philanthropic organization that needs people to volunteer to call others who are alone in their homes, and are unable to get out. As soon as I finish writing this, I plan to try to contact them.

Life has a strange way of sending us in the direction we need to go, and had I not written this article I would have forgotten about that organization. Something tells me that I should do it now.

Ironically I discovered that the group is closed for lunch, so I will try again after two o'clock when their lunch break is over. Perhaps I should wait to finish this article after I check them out.

Well I tried, and was told that they no longer have the program that I so wanted to participate in.  However, tomorrow is another day, and perhaps I'll come up with a .new idea.
