The World Turned Upside Down

Not long ago, my husband wrote the following words. How prescient he was when he wrote the following.

President Donald J. Trump

There is an American legend that the British Army based under Lord Cornwallis played "The World Turned Upside Down" when they surrendered after the Siege of Yorktown in 1781. According to custom, the British Army would have played an American or French tune in tribute to the victors, but General Washington refused them the honors of war and insisted that they play "a British march."

Lately, I've begun to think that the world has been turned upside down, when normally decent Americans continue to pay homage to a president who is a known, perhaps pathological, liar, an adulterer by his own admission, and a racial bigot who claims Mexicans are all rapists and killer gang members and stated that all Muslims should be barred entry to this country.

He orders that babies be separated from their mothers, and put on trial.

Bible-loving Christians refuse to condemn his immoral behavior by saying that his pro-life policies redeem him and that he is repentant. Members of a party once fierce opponents of Russia ignore his disguised kowtowing to Vladimir Putin. His praise for a bloody, murderous dictator goes unanswered.

Congress dismisses his attempts at the destruction of NATO and the European Union.

And most disturbing, is the loud muteness of Republicans in the President's refusal to acknowledge that Russia attacked our country by interfering in our elections.

He is the leader of the free world and states that Neo-Nazis are equated with peaceful protesters. He is an American President who attacks the press, the FBI, and anyone who opposes him. And most disgusting, this craven coward insults American patriots, such as John McCain, or the Muslim American Gold Star soldier's parents.

He is a President who thought it was a great idea to turn over to the Russians American diplomats and CIA agents. In this one instance our Senate stood up to him with a 98 to 0 rebuff of this treasonous act.

I think the lyrics say it best:

"The serving men doe sit and whine, and thinke  it long ere dinner time:

The Butler's still out of the way, or else my Lady keeps the key

The poor old cook, in the larder doth look,

Where is no goodnesse to be found,

Yet let's be content, and the times lament, you see the world turn'd upside down."
