I have written about smoking before, but this appeared to be the time for me to stop.
I have been smoking since I was seventeen years old. I am now eighty four, and have made what many may think is a ridiculous decision for someone my age. I have decided to try to quit smoking.
The decision came to me the day before yesterday when I mentioned to someone that I was looking for a hypnotist to help me quit. I went on YouTube, and found a video that appears to be helping me. After listening to the video for several days, I got up yesterday morning and thought "I don't want to smoke. Why should I smoke when I know how much harm it is doing me? I repeated this a couple of times, and haven't smoked today as well. Not that I haven't thought about it, but I'd hate to fail.
When I was still young, I lived in Illinois, in a place called Highland Park, with my three children and ex husband. I must admit that I was quite a good looker and had an interesting experience.
I read about a hypnotist who was coming to a hotel at the airport who was able to help people quit smoking. It seemed like an opportunity I should try, as the news was out that smoking was bad for your health.
Well I went, and was a non-smoker when the hypnotist told us to break for intermission. When all the other ladies were grabbing puffs in the bathroom, I was chastising them, suggesting that they throw their cigarettes away.
Somewhere I've read that intelligent people are more readily hypnotized, but I am not necessarily suggesting that I am one of those. However, it didn't take much time for me to become a non-smoker.
Unfortunately, the hypnotist had stopped by my seat during the demonstration, and told me to go to his room after the hypnosis ended. When the function was over, I found myself standing in front of one of the sleeping rooms on the first floor of the motel where he spoke. It apparently was the room where he slept. Not interested in his invitation, I went home.
About a week later, I felt the need to smoke, and tried to call the man to ask for his help. He refused me, obviously predicated on his anger that I didn't want to fill his sexual needs. Thus I returned to smoking, and have been smoking all these years.
Well I've tried hypnotism again, and heaven knows I am much, much older this time. However, my husband has been encouraging me to stick with my new method for quitting, and if I can, I will continue to watch my English hypnotist on YouTube every day.
