A First-Timer's Guide to Wyoming

And by that, I mean I just went there for the first-time and this is my guide. Rather than offering a city guide to a place I know well, I thought it would be better to offer you my first impressions and favorite spots having been here only once.

Wyoming is a beautiful state that immediately plunges you right into major Country/Western vibes. I flew into Jackson Hole, a tiny airport with approximately 10 gates. Upon exiting the airplane, you're greeted by a huge arch made of antlers:

Now, if you want to follow this trip exactly in my footsteps, your first move is to drop your phone as soon as you arrive at LAX, leaving you with a half-working phone for the duration of the trip. This will leave you with a lovely mixture of anger & anxiety (if you have to try to get work done during your stay) and wondrous serenity (once you realize that there's nothing you can do since the nearest Apple Store is in Salt Lake City, Utah, so you might as well enjoy being off-the-grid while you can).

Intermittent Spring — This is a natural spring that turns on and off at random due to its geological formation (or something?). Unfortunately, we didn't get to see it turn off, but the water was amazingly clear and we had a lovely picnic near the base. The hike is about a quarter mile to the spring, so it's delightfully easy, but be warned! As you hike up to the top of the spring, you may be greeted by millions of bugs and, if you're squeamish like me, might find yourself in a bit of a bind...

We spent the other half of our time back up in Jackson. We were lucky enough to witness the 2017 eclipse in totality, which was truly an experience of a life time.

We also had a few delicious meals. Visit Persephone Bakery, which offered great coffee and freshly baked pastries. A short drive away, to Teton Village, is an awesome steakhouse called Bet the Ranch.

Perhaps the highlight of my trip was a hike we did on our last day, in Teton National Park. I was on a quest to find a moose and, though my quest was not completed, I did find one of the most breathtaking views ever:

Overall, Wyoming is a beautiful place, perfect for enjoying nature and disconnecting from the digital world.
