Don't Knock Drugstore Beauty Products

Sometimes all you need is a $5.00 cleanser to fix all your problems.
It's all about this guy right here:
Source: Clean & Clear
I've struggled with acne since college. I wasn't the normal kid who had it in middle and high school. I got it later on and continue to deal with breakouts on a regular basis into my mid-twenties. Since graduating, I've gotten really into skincare products and love trying out new things to clear up and soothe my complexion.
I don't know how much money I've spent on this "hobby," but you might remember a previous TLT I wrote about the importance of splurging from time to time . . .
The product I am probably most fickle about is cleanser. I want to feel super clean after washing my face (yeah, yeah, I know you don't want to completely strip the sebum off your face and shouldn't use harsh cleansers, but I just love that squeaky-clean feeling). That's why a popular product like Glossier's Milky Jelly isn't my jam (get it?).
I've bounced around from exfoliating cleansers, to micellar waters (these are actually great!), to trying out a cleansing brush. No matter which facewash I tried, I just didn't notice a big difference in the health and look of my skin, except for a Japanese drugstore brand that used sulphur in it, which had a funny smell and was a little too intense for me.
Then one day, I ran out of facewash.
I usually plan ahead. I get so excited when I'm nearing the end of a product, that I immediately hop online to research a replacement. I don't know what happened this time, but I was unprepared.
In a bind, I reached for my boyfriend's drugstore facewash. I figured I would research my new cleanser later that day, but something magical happened.
Within just a couple days, Clean & Clear's acne cleanser calmed my breakouts and reduced the appearance of red spots and acne scars. It's a really rich cream that makes your skin tingle as you apply it and leaves your skin feeling clean and fresh.
I have nothing against drugstore products, I just always figured face wash was something that was worth investing a little more in. I used to use this same brand in high school, but I stopped when I went to college so I could feel like a "grown-up" or something. But boy was I missing out. If it's cheap and it works, don't second-guess it!
