Into The Abyss: My NFL Thoughts

After the SuperBowl, we head into that dull time of year when fans like me have to rent a lot more movies. However, there will be some NFL news happening.
I'll give some comments as the NFL news comes out regarding coaches, players, free agency, the draft, etc. But just because I picked 9 of 11 postseason games correctly, I am not suddenly a psychic. I do enjoy guessing about teams' outlooks for next season, so here goes.
I think the Eagles face a tough road next season. It would be an understatement to say that they face a tougher schedule than in 2017. Many Eagle fans are excited about getting Carson Wentz back, but I continue to say that Nick Foles was just fine. He was not a surprise to me. Did any of the doubters see his play prior to 2017? I feel that the fate of the Eagles did not and does not rest with the QB — it was those talented receivers and backs who vaulted the Eagles to the top. Let's see what next year's roster looks like. In the NFC, the Vikings, Rams, Falcons, Saints and Panthers are going to have a lot to say about playoff seeding, and in the NFC East, I doubt that the Cowboys will be quiet.
Let's talk Tom Brady. I doubt that I will see him back in a Super Bowl. The AFC doesn't have as much parity as the NFC (not just my opinion; check the conference win-loss records or my prior articles explaining this). But the handful of teams who have dominated the AFC championships are not going to be able to keep it up. A telltale development is the rise of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans.
The Vikings have got to figure out what went wrong (and when they do, perhaps they will also tell me). They looked invincible at most points in the regular season, but as soon as the playoffs started, they were shaky. The Saints are an awesome team, but that scare they gave the Vikings was a wakeup call for me. Playing poorly like they did, and almost losing — at home after a bye — I felt strongly that the Vikings would lose the following week in Philadelphia. I was right. They not only lost, they got spanked. I can only guess that this was something psychological. If anyone can explain it, I'm all ears.
Right now, all the NFL talk is about the San Francisco 49ers and Jimmy Garoppolo. I think Kyle Shanahan was a great choice for head coach, and getting Jimmy G from the Patriots was smart. This should eventually make the Niners offense potent. However, I think it's too soon to hand the Niners the NFC West title, much less the NFC championship trophy. But this development does add a third NFC West team into the NFC's already-large mix of contenders. The Arizona Cardinals, however, should be worried.
That's all the news there is for now. To say that I am not very interested in the Winter Olympics would be an understatement. Anyone have any movie suggestions?
